Out of the Dreamtime
Sarah Weston
Maynard, MA, USA
collage, digital transfer fresco

“In my Global Art Project piece, I chose images that for me are powerful and iconic. Stones: Earth, grounding us, the pebbles are like a pattern of fingertips; Hands: touch, hold, communicate, connect to others; Children: our link to the future, to hope, to play. The overlaying text is a quote by an Aboriginal Elder about the Dreamtime of the Creative Ancestors.

I see play as a powerful tool for bringing people together. When we are genuinely at play, we are not at war. My daughter loves stones, and frequently brings home rocks that then become part of an artwork or a game of make believe. I think that children being drawn to stones is one way they connect with the earth and with a place inside them that celebrates Earth. If more of us could feel this connection, our planet would have less conflict.”
